Comtest's earthing and lightning protection seminar

Comtest is hosting a Practical Earthing and Lightning Protection Seminar, that will be presented by Power Quality Company Managing Director Mike Visser on April 21,2009 at their Midrand offices. The course has been designed to demystify the subject of lightning and surge protection in a clear, straightforward manner. The method of training will include giving a short history of the subject and address how the codes of practice have changed through the years. The seminar aims to increase awareness and importance of correct practices to ensure safety of personnel, plant and equipment under lightning conditions.

The seminar is divided into six sessions namely:

  • Reasons for earthing, History of earthing
  • Different types of earthing systems
  • Lightning protection, objectives, options and technologies in use today
  • Planned maintenance
  • Lightning protection case study workshop
  • Practical field test & calculating an implementing a cost effective earth mat design.

Participants have an opportunity to gain an understanding of the codes that govern the design and installation of lightning protection systems as well as looking anew at issues that enable them to reduce the risk of damage and injury. They will learn the codes of practice that govern the installation and maintenance of lightning protection systems in South Africa today, code requirements, to implement correct complaint systems and gain a new understanding on how to maintain correct lightning protection systems according to the SANS codes of practice.
