In early December, Comtest played host to Wim Nieuwenhuizen, Midtronics Incorporated's sales manager for industrial products. Nieuwenhuizen travelled to South Africa for the official launch of a new battery monitoring solution.  was well received by the local telecommunications industry, power utility companies, UPS manufacturers and equipment manufacturers alike.

The CellGuard battery monitoring solution provides continuous monitoring of batteries for improved system reliability and cost effective maintenance. It also identifies infant mortality of batteries that can go undetected until the first maintenance check. The Midtronics Cellguard System

"The South African climate has a negative impact on battery usage as high temperatures tend to decrease battery life. In addition, the tremendous distances in South Africa make it more convenient to control systems remotely wherever possible," Nieuwenhuizen stated.

He points out that increasing competition between telecommunications - and other - companies is making control over maintenance costs more important than ever before.

Comtest's Hilton Preston says, "We are very excited about the new products that Midtronics has launched from the CellGuard range. In South Africa there is an enormous need for continuous remote monitoring of standby battery installations in the broader telecommunications protection services and power utilities market sectors. This system is guaranteed to be well received by clients across industry."

Comtest is the sole authorized Midtronics distributor in southern Africa.
